On Saturday 7 February 2009 the town of Kinglake along with the national park surrounding it was completely destroyed in a catastrophic bushfire. After initial work for VicRoads removing or pruning fire-damaged trees along the roads into Kinglake, The Tree Works moved into the national park to take care of the trees along the trails and in the campsites and picnic grounds.
The work was extremely challenging, with many of the trees having sustained severe damage in the fires. Several of the trees which we were scheduled to climb had failed in the two week period between the assesment and our arrival onsite. We removed about half of the trees, and retained the remainder as ‘habitat stumps’ by climbing the trees, delimbing them and felling the heads out.
