The 2011 tree climbing roadtrip is officially underway! Into trees climber Joe Harris came second by a point in the NSW TCC prelims; congratulations to climbing legend Scott Forrest for another excellent comp. Congratulations also to the three talented NSW climbers who went through to the masters, all of whom completed the climb in a calm and controlled manner. Results will be posted here as soon as they are available from the Arboriculture Australia website. Ben Abeleven ended up winning, after a dead heat with Joe Little was decided on time.
After the drive back from Sydney, there were a few days of packing and planning before into trees was on the road again… or rather on the water. The ute was packed with climbing gear and saws, the swags were strapped to the roof, and into trees boarded the Spirit of Tasmania for a night ferry to the sixth state. The 2011 Tasmanian Workshop and TCC were held on Fri 25 and Sat 26 March, so climbers Kiah Martin, Joe Harris and Jeremie Thomas were all down in Tasmania to organise the workshop, help out on the day or compete. Despite severe flooding on the days before, the workshop and comp enjoyed beautiful sunny days and we were lucky enough to see some great climbing. Jeremie took second place in the men’s prelims, and Kiah won the women’s competition. Full results for the prelims and masters competition are posted here.
The map above shows where we’re off to next – a few days of work in Victoria and then the long road across to Perth for the WA comp one month from now. More details – and some videos – posted here soon.
