On Thursday 10 Feb into trees was invited to run a workshop on Single Rope Technique for Jim’s Trees and the ATRAES group. The event was run at the Jim’s Trees head office in Mooroolbark, where we took advantage of a clear day and the great location to do a lot of climbing and talking about SRT. John Canning from ATRAES brought out the new Stein Dual friction drums, which we used to lift out a large hanger from one of the trees onsite – it worked a treat, with the only slight problem occuring when John was asked to tie a Klemheist onto the lowering rope…
We also tried out the new ATRAES MicroFrog SRT system, and looked at different rope setups to use SRT for tall tree access, as well as ways of setting an in-line anchor in order to use a traditional doubled rope system from a single-line setup. More details on the techniques discussed are available for free from the Victorian Tree Industry Organisation – download the PDF of Single Rope Technique from their website.
Please contact Joe from into trees if you are interested in organising a similar climbing workshop on this or other advanced climbing techniques. Thanks to Rob Muller from Jim’s Trees and John Canning from ATRAES for organising the day, and to John (Doc) Holliday from Jim’s Trees in Perth for flying all the way over, and taking the photographs.
